Hi! My name is Daria Gumbs, and I am a Senior. I am a born and raised New Yorker. I am also a first-generation Caribbean American.
I am a first-generation boarding school student, and entering this space has meant learning how to navigate an unfamiliar environment while holding onto my Trinidadian identity. Writing has always been one of the ways I make sense of new experiences. I love to write because it gives me room to reflect, to be honest, and to tell stories that often go unheard. And in many ways, writing helps me bridge where I come from with where I am now.
When I have free time I enjoy crocheting and watching movies, as well as having long, late-night conversations. I am also a coxswain for boys' crew, which is one of the most challenging experiences I’ve had, yet I am grateful for the leadership, confidence, and discipline it has taught me. I also serve as the Head of Women of Color and Onyx at my school, where I work to create spaces that center identity and support.
